Hello !

I’m so so excited to share with another part of our honeymoon ! I have so many photos, stories to tell I don’t even know where to begin. This trip is going to be a long story to tell, so I decided to split my articles by cities. After Tokyo, today I’m taking you to Nikko. It’s a city 2 hours north of Tokyo by car. We wanted to go there because we wanted to see the cherry blossom and the more you go north the better it is if you go to Japan a little bit later in the cherry blossom season. So we stayed 3 days in Tokyo and when headed to Nikko for a one trip day.

When we arrived we found ourself in the middle of a Spring festival, it was so surprising and unexpected ( because we didn’t really read about Nikko before going there) that it brought tears in my eyes to see all of those people, I think that made me realized I was in Japan. The whole village was pushing floats with kids playing the flute and drums. The atmosphere was kinda magical. We arrived in Nikko at 4:30pm and the shrine and the famous bridge was already closed,  we had to stop to Tsukuba, a famous racing track that we spotted on our way and my petrolhead husband couldn’t resist to stop. So I was a little disappointed not to see the touristic things but being a part of the festival was a billion time better.

I was taking photos and my husband wanted one with the funny guy, and when the guy with a funny hat went next to him my husband said he’s nice but he stinks alcohol so bad in French. And the guy picked up alcohol which is the same in French/English. So he said we have alcohol, you want alcohol ?? He went to the back of the float where they had a huge sake barrel, and started pouring sake in bamboo shooters. We did Kampai with all the drunk Japanese men, and my husband was driving, there is a no tolerance for alcohol in Japan so he couldn’t drink anything, I had to drink his shooters too ! I have to admit I was less and less cold everytime we tried Saké 🙂

We went to walk in the park near the bridge, and I was kind of happy for it to be close because I could enjoy the bridge without tourists on it. We shooted my outfit of the day. As I knew Nikko was in the mountains, I worn a jeans with a blouse. The white jeans are a must have for Spring and I was happy to finally wear them. My top is thrifted it was really big for me but I love the print and the softness of the fabric. I downsized it and added the teal trim. It felt so great to wear my sandals.

After our little walk we went back to the festivities and I made my husband pull the float with the Japanese, we got even more sake and also after a little hill we had noodles in little bowls for free. We stayed quite late, with the saké flowing, Japanese men started to be talkative and curious, we didn’t want to leave, it was nice to experience something so special with the locals. One of them made us try his geta shoes ( I think he was just so tired of wearing them !) and it was so funny to walk in his shoes. There were not even the same level shoes, and they had been walking on them for hours ! I let you enjoy the photos, but this first experience was so perfect we couldn’t expect better from you Japan !

Coucou !

Nous voici de retour du Japon et je suis super excitée de partager avec vous toutes nos photos, aventures et anecdotes. Il y a tellement de trucs à raconter que je ne sais pas trop par où commencer ! Je pense écrire une série d’article par ville pour que ça soit plus simple. Aujourd’hui je vous amène à Nikko, à deux heures au nord de Tokyo. Nous sommes restés 3 jours à Tokyo pour le début de notre voyage et nous avons fait une journée à Nikko.

Nous sommes partis tôt, mais nous avons croisé les panneaux du circuit de Tsukuba sur notre passage, du coup un détour au circuit imprévu à fait un homme heureux. Nous sommes arrivés à 16:30 dans les rues de Nikko et les monuments étaient déjà fermés ( les temples ferment en général vers 18:00 et les parcs à la tombée de la nuit). Nous étions un peu déçu, mais j’ai quand même pu apprécier la vue du fameux pont rouge et j’avoue que j’étais bien contente qu’il soit fermé pour ne pas avoir de touriste dessus !

Les temples étaient fermés certes, mais nous sommes arrivés en plein festival du printemps ! Nous sommes partis un peu la fleur au fusil, sans regarder le programme de la journée, résultat nous avons croisé des chards tirés par les villageois complétement par hasard ! j’étais un peu émue de voir tous ces gens habillés en costumes traditionnel, je crois que c’est à ce moment là que mon cerveau à réaliser que j’étais au Japon !

L’anecdote de Nikko: Monsieur a voulu prendre une photo avec un japonais en tenue traditionnelle et chapeau melon, et quand il a pris la photo, il a dit, « il est gentil mais par contre il pue l’alcool » et ce cher japonais a compris un seul mot, alcool, du coup il nous dit yes yes alcohol, you want ? Ah ben un chti canon ça nous réchaufferait bien ! Et là nous avons compris, il y avait une barrique de saké derrière chaque char, résultat les tireurs/pousseurs de char avaient de quoi se donner du courage ! Ils nous ont servi du saké qui avait bon goût, pas trop fort en alcool, dans des shooters de bambou. Et comme monsieur conduisait, j’ai du faire Kampai! avec son shooter aussi… J’ai  eu beaucoup moins froid après ça ! 

Du coup nous avons suivi la procession pendant un petit moment, nous avons ensuite marché dans le parc où j’en ai profité pour faire des photos de la tenue du jour. Comme il faisait pas bien chaud, j’ai pu mettre mon pantalon blanc, et pour égayer la tenue, j’ai choisi un chemisier vintage. Je l’ai trouvé chez Emmaus et il était beaucoup trop grand pour moi, mais le tissus est sympa et la matière très douce. Du coup j’ai tout remis à taille et j’ai rajouté un gallon turquoise sur le col et les manches que j’avais dans mes affaires de couture. Les sandalettes viennent de chez H&M, vous les avez déjà aperçu ici, et j’avoue que ça faisait du bien d’avoir les orteils à l’air !

Après notre pause photo, nous avons retrouvé la procession et d’autres copains japonais un peu éméchés, ils étaient très curieux et venaient nous parler facilement, nous avons beaucoup apprécié ces moments passés avec des vrais japonais. Un deux devait avoir mal aux pieds avec ses « Geta »  (oui le moyen mémo-technique avec David est assez facile 🙂 qui les a enlevé et nous a demandé si on voulait essayer. J’ai filmé toute cette partie, et je vous prépare une petite vidéo sympa avec tous les bons moments du Japon. Cette journée à Nikko a été un de nos plus beaux souvenirs, il me reste plein d’autres moments à partager encore je m’active à tout écrire.
