Royal blue wedding Capucine & Stanislas – Mariage bleu roi Capucine & Stanislas

I’m excited to share today my friend Capucine’s wedding. The story of our friendship is one of my favorite. I meet Capucine in the train last year when I was going to Bordeaux for my wedding. I was doing my wedding crafts in the train and instead of the 3:15 hour needed, this train took 7 hours to go to Bordeaux. There was a fire on the tracks and the train had to go back to Paris when we were already driving for 1:30 hours. It was a total nightmare ! Until my neighbor pulled her knitting from her bag, saying this is going to be looong so I better start knitting ! I was so surprised to see a young lady knitting just like me ! This is how the conversation started and it lasted for 7h ! Who knows who you’re sitting next to. We had so much in common it was unbelievable. From Bordeaux, living in Paris, loving craft and cooking, she lived in China when I lived in Taiwan and the list goes on…

We stayed in touch, and spent a few fun afternoons in Paris, doing our fabric shopping in our favorite fabric shop, exchanging sewing and knitting patterns. Right after the summer she also got… engaged ! It was so exciting to share my experience and live the wedding preparation again. Of course I moved to London so I couldn’t keep up with the preparations but I would meet her every time I would come back to Paris.

As our friendship was new, I didn’t know if we would be invited for the wedding, and it turned out we were ! You can imagine how excited I was and I started planning my outfit, many months before. I want to make all my wedding dresses handmade, as long as I don’t have too many and I can keep up.

She said the color will be royal blue so I went fabric hunting for a bright royal blue. I wanted a simple dress that I could embroidered with crystals. I also planned to have a matching light jacket for the ceremony and also in case it got chilly at night. Of course I couldn’t do without a fascinator. I found the fascinator base and feathers in a fabric shop in London. The crystals are from Aliexpress, cheap and I was not in a hurry to get them. As you can see on the second photo I first wanted to sew the crystals around the neck line but it also means I had to get it dry cleaned. As the fabric was cotton and I didn’t want to bother and found an other alternative : making a removable belt to accentuate the waistline and be able to clean the dress myself.

For the flower girls, Capucine used a blue flower pattern fabric and made very cute open back dressed, I also got the same fabric so I could make a bow tie and handkerchief for monsieur.

My grandma helped me a lot with the dress and I was so happy to be able to sew with her. It’s such a good memory. I love how it turned and I can’t wait to use the pattern again. I had to get matching shoes, and of course as soon as Capucine said, wedding- royal blue- one special pair came into my mind: the Carrie Bradshaw Manolo’s. I shopped the fabric with the shoes to be able to match it perfectly. And I remember my mother saying, usually you buy the dress before matching the shoes. But it was easier that way. I was so excited about the shoes, I got them early and I couldn’t stop wearing them before indoor. I just feel like a princess with those shoes. It was one of my dream shoes for a long time and I couldn’t stop smiling when I look at my feet.

Back to the wedding ! The wedding took place in a very nice Château in the Médoc area: Château Giscours. We had the ceremony and then the cocktail party and diner. As Monsieur proposed in Corsica, they used it as a theme, so we had corsican ham and it was delicious. Fresh oysters, foie gras and champagne, all the things we missed in London.

We were so happy to be part of their big day, and as you can imagine, Capucine and I are so excited about the next steps in life, already planning our baby knits and little handmade outfits.

Aujourd’hui je vous parle encore de mariage, un de mes thèmes préférés ! Après le mariage de Virginie en jaune, que vous pouvez retrouver ici. Je vous propose cette fois-ci un mariage bleu pour le mariage de ma copine Capucine. Il faut que je vous raconte l’histoire du début… J’ai rencontré Capucine il y a un an… dans le train. C’était ma voisine pour mon dernier Bordeaux-Paris en tant que mademoiselle. Notre train qui met d’habitude, 3h15 a mis 7h pour rejoindre Bordeaux, un vrai cauchemar. Au bout d’1h30 de trajet, il a fallu faire demi tour pour retourner à Paris car il y avait un incendie sur les voies. Bref, le voyage allait être long et ennuyant, jusqu’au moment où ma voisine a sorti son tricot ! Je faisais mes bricolages de mariage et bien sûr je n’ai pas pu résister à lui faire la conversation. Une année plus tard, nous avons eu le plaisir d’être à ses côtés pour son grand jour. On ne sait jamais où une conversation dans un train peu amener !

Après notre rencontre nous sommes restées en contact car nous avons énormément de points en commun. Elle aime le tricot, la couture, la cuisine, vient de Bordeaux, vit à Paris et a vécu en Chine lorsque j’étais à Taiwan. De fil en aiguilles nous sommes devenues de bonnes copines et au début de l’automne elle m’annonçait que c’était à son tour d’avoir la bague au doigt.

J’ai donc suivi ces préparatifs avec joie, du shopping tissus pour les robes des petites filles d’honneur, à l’essayage maquillage chez Séphora. Même après notre déménagement à Londres, nous sommes restées en contact, et nous étions ravis de pouvoir revenir à Bordeaux pour le grand jour.

Biensûr vous imaginez bien que ma tenue a été pensé des mois à l’avance. Je me suis fixée un objectif de faire toutes mes robes de mariage à la main. Lorsque j’ai su que la couleur serait bleu roi, je me voyais déjà dans une robe simple mais chic bleu avec quelques strass. Je voulais aussi une petite veste assortie pour la cérémonie et si la soirée était fraiche. Biensûr un bibi était indispensable. Pour ce qui est des chaussures, je n’arrivais pas à me sortir de la tête les chaussures de Sex and the city bleu roi, et j’ai donc craqué pour la paire de Carrie Bradshaw. Je les ai achetées bien à l’avance et mes pieds avaient envie de les essayer à chaque fois que je les voyais. J’ai construit ma tenue à partir des chaussures et je voulais une touche de rappel des strass. Ma première idée était de les coudre le long de l’encolure mais cela aurait impliqué un lavage au pressing. Comme ma robe est en coton, j’ai opté pour une ceinture brodée amovible qui me permet de la laver moi même, tout en cintrant la robe.

Pour en revenir au mariage, une fois la cérémonie finie, nous sommes allés au château Giscours pour le cocktail et le diner. Comme monsieur avait fait sa demande en Corse, il y avait un plateau de charcuterie corses. Entre le champagne, le foie gras et le saucisson, les expatriés étaient contents de rentrer au pays. Nous sommes ravis d’avoir pu être là et je ne peux vous cacher que Capucine et moi continuons à parler couture et tricot pour les prochaines étapes de nos vies 😉
